Specialist Language Colleges

Specialist Schools, in partnership with private sponsors and supported by additional Government funding, aim to raise the standards in their chosen specialised subjects. They work with named partner schools for the benefit of pupils beyond their own school boundaries.

Specialist Language Colleges raise the standards of achievement and the quality of teaching in Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). They share resources and develop good practice with local schools, colleges, businesses and the wider community.

Language Colleges play a key role in supporting the National Languages Strategy, promoting a learning culture and encouraging 'languages for life'.

There are currently 15 Specialist Language Colleges in the East Midlands, with a further 4 schools having a second specialism in languages:
