Regional Language Challenge
In November 2007, the RLN, in association with the Education Business Partnerships and Comenius EM, challenged local schools to design an information pack, in a foreign language, for a visiting Olympic team.
The challenge
Classes of students, aged 11 - 16, were invited to submit information packs, in their desired language, describing traditional English food, local historical sites, English tradtions and culture, places to visit and the basic rules of an English sport.
The RLN received a fantastic response to the competition and after much hard deliberation the winners were finally announced in May 2008.
Suzannah Hutton, RLN Manager, said:
"All of the entries submitted were of a really high standard - the accuracy of language was superb and the imaginative layouts made judging the competition all the more enjoyable! It was a difficult decision choosing the winning entries but I hope all schools found partipating a worthwhile task."

The winners
Emerging victorious from the competition and winning a day trip to the Europa Centre for Modern Languages - a simulation centre for adults and children learning languages - were Moat Community College in Leicester. Their informative, professional-looking pack impressed judges, as did their written Spanish. Well done MCC!
