Languages and You
Our programme of Languages and You talks provide inspiration, advice and activities to show the true value of learning languages.
Languages and You is funded by Routes into Languages and aims to bring a long-term perspective to language learning by encouraging students to think more broadly about the opportunities language skills can bring in the world of work and at a personal level.
Free presentations to secondary schools
We deliver Languages and You presentations to schools around the East Midlands. This is a free service aimed at increasing the uptake of languages at both GCSE and A level.
What do the presentations involve?
Languages and You talks are dynamic presentations aimed at showing school children the enormous benefits of language learning.
Talks are delivered by an external consultant - a linguist with a varied career in export and each talk lasts for approximately half an hour.
Some of the materials used are taken from the Languages Work website, which provides guidance and resources to inspire language learners.

Sign the Languages Work Pledge

We'd like to ask you to spare a minute to sign up to the Languages Work Pledge, which aims to raise awareness of the value of language and intercultural skills and encourage support for this area of learning.
You can sign the pledge as a business or an individual and do your bit to encourage others - businesses, young people and policy makers - that these skills really are vital in the workplace.
How interested are we in learning languages?
73% of people in the UK agree that everyone should speak at least one foreign language.
5 million people are currently learning one, 58% of these at home rather than in a class.
A further 9 million people are interested in learning a language.
