School earns international status 01.10.07

A public school has become one of the first in Leicestershire to gain status as an international school.

Market Bosworth's Dixie Grammar School achieved the International School Award from the Department for Education and Science.

For years, the school has had links with China, running exchange trips and language lessons.

It also has links with a German school, is forming one with Hungary and may soon build links with India. Internationally themed activities at the school include celebrating such things as Chinese New Year, India Day and International Day.

The international school status will last until 2010.

Head John Wood said: "We are very keen on international links."

Other schools to receive the international award this year include Brookvale High School, in Groby, and Catherine Infant School, Leicester.
