Foreign language lessons have never been this good! 05.10.07
Fresh from bruising encounters on the rugby pitch, two of Leicester Tigers' foreign stars entered the far less combative surroundings of one of the city's girls' schools, where they were grilled by the pupils in their native tongues.
The visit gave the pupils of Leicester High School for Girls, in Stoneygate, many of whom are rugby fans, the chance to meet their heroes, Frenchman Christophe Laussucq and Argentine Alejandro Moreno, and talk to them in their own languages.
Fourteen-year-old Sarah Tattersall said: "I'm a huge rugby fan and a season-ticket holder at Leicester Tigers, so it was really inspiring to hear the players speak, and made studying languages so much more relevant for me.
"It was great to meet two international sportsmen, who answered all our questions with such good humour."
The school's head of modern languages, Chris West-Sadler, who arranged the event, is a big rugby fan and thought the idea of the lessons would appeal to the students.
He said: "Inviting foreign sports stars from a local club as renowned as Tigers seemed an exciting chance for the girls to use their languages with people from the countries about which they learn.
Moreno, a prop forward, said he was happy to help the girls out with their studies.
He said: "I have to say the girls impressed me with their level of understanding because I was talking Spanish at normal speed.
