Medal won for teaching Italian 29.12.07
A languages teacher has been honoured by an organisation set up to encourage people to learn Italian.
The Presidency of the Dante Alighieri Society, Italy's foremost association for the worldwide promotion of Italian language and literature, gave its bronze medal and Diploma of Merit to Leicester teacher Pina Mayes.
Mrs Mayes was recognised for her many years of Italian language teaching in the city and her service to the Leicester branch of the organisation since it was founded in the city in 1962.
She taught for many years at the Leicester Adult Education College, in Wellington Street, and still teaches privately in her retirement.
The award was presented to Mrs Mayes as a surprise.
