Children taught sign language 08 July 2008
Children could soon be taking lessons in sign language.
Leicester charity Action Deafness is inviting schools to take part in a British sign language challenge to raise awareness and help generate funds.
Volunteers will be visiting schools around the county over the next year to promote deaf awareness and to teach basic sign language.
They will then play games in silence but using sign language to help understand the needs of deaf people.
Craig Crowley, chief executive of Action Deafness, said: "I believe children will benefit from this fun way of learning about sign language and that awareness of deafness should be learnt from an early age."
