Guide offers valuable advice for migrant workers 03 June 2008

Migrant workers in North Lincolnshire have a new guide for life and jobs in their new home.

It includes detailed information for new arrivals from setting up a bank account to advice about British law and customs. The 38-page guide is available on the council website in English and eight other European and Asian languages.

Two days before the official launch a mobile information centre visited the Two Sisters Food Group in Foxhills Industrial Estate.
Coun Ishaq Jawaid MBE, mayor of North Lincolnshire, said: "I'm delighted that one of my first duties as mayor is to launch this new welcome guide.

"The guide has been designed to welcome people from other countries and cultures who have come to live and work in North Lincolnshire."

Figures from the last census in 2001 showed about 5,550 foreign workers in North Lincolnshire, although the council believes that statistic is 'significantly higher' now.

"Migrant labour is making a positive contribution to the local area." said Coun Ishaq.

"And thanks to this online guide, people new to North Lincolnshire can access a whole host of valuable information at the click of a button.

"What's more, we've produced this guide in eight other languages."

To find out more or to download the guide please visit the North Lincolnshire Council website.
