Students learn about Arabic culture through musical workshop 16.04.08
Palestinian singer, musician and broadcaster, Reem Kelani and her jazz band visited Yarborough school to lead a cultural workshop focused on singing.
Year 6 children from local primary schools including including Middle Rasen, Kelsey, and Normanby-by-Spital, were invited to join in with the project, along with Yarborough's Year 7 students.
Students were encouraged to to work together as a choir, singing in the Arabic language and learning about the culture and traditions of the Palestinian people.
Modern and traditional Palestinian instruments were brought to show to the pupils who were given the opportunity to play them. During the two hour workshops the pupils were fully engaged with Reem and her band, having sung and danced, and left the workshop inspired.
