Janet Spavin - Loughborough College
External Relations Manager

Janet began her career as a teacher of German and French in schools and subsequently in further education. During her years as a teacher at Loughborough College, she became especially interested in developing integrated work-related foreign language training packages to complement mainstream vocational programmes.
As European Manager at the college she specialised in the development of work experience and placement programmes with partners across the European Union and gained valuable experience in designing packages to provide intercultural and linguistic training for participating trainees.
In her present role at Loughborough College she has responsibility for all international business. This role has extended her direct experience of the commercial world as well as providing new insights into the vital importance of intercultural competence.
Throughout her career progression she has retained an active involvement in teaching and still relishes the challenge of enabling clients to succeed in learning a language. Her passionate commitment to the promotion of foreign language skills has involved her in numerous local, regional and national initiatives.
In her spare time she enjoys the theatre and cinema. An interest in travelling makes sure that she is regularly reminded what it feels like to be a language learner as well as a teacher.
